The Knap-in is open to the public, with demonstrations several times per day and artists displaying their work for sale.
An auction will be held at 2PM on Saturday afternoon, showcasing the work of several artists. All proceeds go towards
the costs of hosting and promoting the knap-in.
The Knap-in will be held on the grounds of Ft. Martin Scott, a civil war era cavalry post. The Fort is located just east
of the city of Fredericksburg on highway 290.
Dry camping is available on the grounds, while there is a RV park across the highway for those who wish to have water/electric
hookups.
Registration fees are $5 for knappers,
$10 for vendors. Attendance is free to the public.
Fredericksburg is located on highway 290 approx. 80 miles west of Austin, adjacent to the Pedernales River. It has a wide
variety of accommodations, many fine restaurants, and shopping for the entire family. For more information about the Fredericksburg

Q: Will there be a food service on site?
A: We will have the same people doing the food service as we had this Spring; your choices will include drinks, chips,
hamburgers and bratwurst all day, with breakfast service on Friday and Sunday.
Q: Can I collect knapping material while I’m there?
A: The Pedernales river is a prime source of material, but you MUST obtain landowner permission prior to collecting.
Q: Are there other activities at the knapin?
A: Yes! We will have a primitive archery range and tomahawk/atl-atl practice area as well.
Q: What is a knap-in?
A: A knap-in is a gathering of people who have come together to practice the art of knapping.
Q: What is knapping?
A: Knapping is the oldest of all art forms; fashioning useful tools from stone.
Q: What kinds of tools do knappers make?
A: Knappers can fashion a large variety of tools from stone, including arrowheads, knives, spearpoints, drills, and hide
scrapers.
Q: Can anyone learn?
A: Yes, they can. Each and every person alive today has flintknappers in their ancestry; you might say it is in our genes.
